KABUL (Pajhwok): The construction work of Ab Tori dam in southern Zabul province has been completed at the cost of 127 million afs, a statement from the Ministry of Energy and Water said on Thursday.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Beradar, deputy prime minister for economic affairs, termed the completion of this dam in Qalat, the capital of Zabul province, a positive step in the infrastructure development of Zabul.
Acting Energy and Water Minister Mullah Abdul Latif Mansour has termed the project vital for the people of Zabul province.
Tori dam is located four kilometers away from Qalat city, the capital of Zabul province, and has been implemented at a cost of 127 million Afghanis for the purpose of controlling monsoon floods, irrigating agricultural lands and strengthening underground water resources.
According to the source, this dam with a height of 23 meters has a storage capacity of 2.9 million cubic meters of water and a production capacity of 61 kilowatts of electricity, and irrigates 560 hectares of agricultural land
The Tori dam is not dubbed as Umari dam.
