23 people killed, injured in Kunar flash flood

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Three people were killed, 20 others injured and at least 150 houses damaged as a result of heavy rain and flash floods in the Koz Kunar district of eastern Nangarhar province early on Friday, an official said.

Mawlavi Sediqullah Qureshi, deputy head of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News this morning flash floods triggered in the Koz Kunar district due to heavy rainfall.

He said initial information showed three people were killed and up to 20 injured.

Most hit areas were the Gandi, Ghaziabad, Janat Khan Qala, Qalatak, Salampur and some other areas in which 150 houses had been damaged.

He said the Marwarid Kanal was also damaged due to heavy rainfall and its water had damaged the Kuhna Da village.

Local residents have demanded emergency relief assistance.

Jamshid, the resident of Qalatack village in Koz Kunar said that flash flood had inflicted heavy losses and people needed assistance on emergency bases.
