PARUN (Pajhwok): Security forces have seized a large cache of heavy weapons, ammunition and military equipment in Kamdesh district of eastern Nuristan province, an official said on Wednesday.
201st Khalid Bin Walid Corps spokesman Maulvi Wahidullah Mohammadi told Pajhwok Afghan News the seizure included six heavy weapons, thousands of bullets and Zekoyak, Dushke, mortar, aegis, BM-1 and other military equipment.
He said reconnaissance and intelligence battalion personnel conducted an operation in the area and seized the weapons on Tuesday, and handed them over to the army corps this morning.
On the other hand, Mullah Mohammad Khalid Huzaifah, who led the operation, explained no one had been arrested in connection with the case, but an investigation was underway.
“I am calling on the people if anyone has any weapons related to Bait Ul-Mal, to hand them over voluntarily to relevant authorities, otherwise, they will be arrested based on the investigative reports and will be handed over to the law enforcement authorities,”: Huzaifah warned.
Earlier, hundreds of heavy weapons have been recovered from houses and other stores of former government officials in the east.
