Hamas Political Chief Sinwar killed in Gaza

KABUL (Pajhwok): Israel government and media reports have claimed the killing of Yahya Sinwar, the new political bureau chief of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, in Gaza strip.

The Israeli military confirmed Sinwar’s death on Thursday, but Hamas has not yet commented on the claim, Aljazeera reported.

According to the Israeli military statement, Sinwar was killed on Wednesday after soldiers “eliminated three fighters.”

In August, Hamas appointed its Gaza leader, Sinwar, as the group’s political bureau head to succeed Ismail Haniyeh. Haniyeh was assassinated during a visit to Iran on July 31.

The White House also confirmed the killing of Sinwar city US President Joe Biden as saying: “Early this morning, Israeli authorities informed my national security team that a mission they conducted in Gaza likely killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.  DNA tests have now confirmed that Sinwar is dead.”

Iran’s diplomatic mission to the UN in New York wrote on its X account wrote: “When Muslims look up to Martyr Sinwar standing on the battlefield—in combat attire and out in the open, not in a hideout, facing the enemy—the spirit of resistance will be strengthened,” it added.

The mission further said that Sinwar will become “a model for the youth and children who will carry forward his path toward the liberation of Palestine. As long as occupation and aggression exist, resistance will endure, for the martyr remains alive and a source of inspiration.”
