Polio vaccination drive begins in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A three-day polio vaccination drive, targeting 836,000 children below five years of age, has kicked off in eastern Nangarhar province, an official announced on Monday.

The campaign was launched today (Monday) by the Public Health Department and Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI).

At the opening ceremony, Public Health Director Maulvi Aminullah Sharif urged parents to get their children vaccinated against the crippling disease.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hakim Khan Gulabzai, head of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation, said as many as 836,000 children under five years of age would be vaccinated during the drive.

He added the vaccination campaign was being conducted in a manner different from the past practice. children will be administered polio drops at mosques.
