Jalalabad (Pajhwok): The Department of Agriculture and Livestock in eastern Nangarhar province says agreements worth nearly $3 million have been signed between farmers and trader to develop the agriculture sector and find market for agriculture products.

Officials says under these agreements, 33 traders and 38 leading farmers from Nangarhar, Kabul, Laghman, and Kunar provinces will cooperate in buying and selling agricultural and livestock products.

Today, a market exhibition and marketing program showcasing products and outputs of traders and farmers from these provinces was organized in Jalalabad city by the Afghanistan Value Chain Program, under the Department of Agriculture and Livestock.

Ajmal Subhani, spokesman for the department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that agreements worth $2.8 million were signed between agricultural and livestock product producers and traders in the eastern zone through the Afghanistan Value Chain Program.

He noted that, in addition to Nangarhar, 33 traders and 38 farmers from Kabul, Laghman, and Kunar participated in the program, showcasing their goods and processed items.

According to him, the goal of this program is to facilitate coordination between entrepreneurs and farmers and create opportunities for marketing their products.

Ajmal Rahmani, head of the Nangarhar Department of Agriculture and Livestock Production Chamber, considers such programs and the signing of agreements highly beneficial for marketing and development of domestic agricultural and livestock products.

He is optimistic that, through these agreements, farmers from the eastern provinces (producers of agricultural and livestock products) will find markets for their goods and that traders will be able to source products for their processing factories.
