KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Baseball Federation (ABF) has named a 14-member squad for upcoming Baseball United Arab Classic tournament.
The event was scheduled to commence on November 6 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), ABF wrote on its Facebook page.
Ghafoor will lead the Afghan team, which includesUsman, Delawar, Mohammad Asif, Rafiullah, Najam Islam, Siddiqullah, Mohammad Irfan, Syed Rehman, Azizullah, Karamat, Naqibullah, Dost Mohammad and Usman Zazai.
The United Arab Classic, the largest tournament of its kind in the history of the region, will be held at the new Baseball United Ballpark in Dubai’s The Sevens Sports and Entertainment Complex.
The competition features India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Afghanistan, Nepal, Saudi Arabia and the newly formed UAE team.
The national squad will take on India in their first match on November 7. Baseball United is the first professional league focused on the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent.
Baseball United’s inaugural showcase event in Dubai was broadcast in 127 countries, reaching 200 million households.
