Death toll from Spain floods surges to 95

KABUL (Pajhwok): Amid a search for the missing people, the death toll from Spain’s deadliest floods in decades has soared to 95, reports CNN.

Spain’s Minister of Territorial Policy Angel Victor Torres was quoted as saying 92 people were killed in the worst-hit region of Valencia,.

Two deaths were reported from Castile-La-Mancha and from Andalusia, as heavy rains lashed southern and eastern Spain for hours on Tuesday.

It was the worst rainfall in Valencia in 28 years, said the state weather agency. Rescuers were searching for the missing individuals in Valencia, Malaga and Castile-La-Mancha.

In Valencia region, most highways could not be used on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Vehicles that had been left abandoned were swept away.

As a result of the surging flood waters, about 1,200 people are still be trapped in different parts of a highway in Valencia, and 5,000 vehicles stranded. Trains have also been suspended.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez promised his admiistration would use all means necessary to help victims. He urged eople to remain vigilant.
