TTPD launches teachers’ capacity building scheme

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Officials of the Department of Teacher Training and Professional Development (TTPD) say that around 50,000 teachers in public schools are still teaching against their profession, an official said on Sunday.

TTPD Head Mohammad Ibrahim Umari said in order to solve this problem and to strengthen the professional and academic skills of teachers in remote areas, 4250 people have been appointed across the country within the framework of the Department of Teacher Training and Professional Development to work with teachers districts and remote areas to improve their capacities.

Umari was addressing a 4-day teacher training seminar at the Southeaster Zone levels. He said nearly 50,000 teachers performed duties in public schools across their country against their profession.

He said: “The purpose of establishing the Department of Teacher Training and Professional Development is that we have approximately 50,000 teachers in schools across the country and we also have around 30,000 12th pass teachers, so this is the Department of Teacher Training and Professional Development tasked 4250 people to work with teachers in the areas of professional development and improvement of teaching methods, under this programme there are special committees in all districts.”

Under this teacher training and professional development, people will visit every school and work with teachers to improve their academic and professional capacity.

All bachelor graduates have been appointed to implement this scheme, he added.
