KABUL (Pajhwok): An Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) delegation has participated in the 81st meeting of the Council for Rail Transport of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.
Deputy Minister of Public Works Maulvi Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzadah, also attended the meeting on behalf of IEA, the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) said in a statement.
International cooperation, development of railway infrastructure and the ise of advanced technology in railway affairs came for discussion at the meeting, the statement added.
Sahibzada met his counterparts from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on the sidelines of the meeting.
The statement added Sahibzadah discussed the implementation of railway schemes with his counterparts.
The Commonwealth Member State Rail Transport Council (hereinafter the Council) is an international CIS institution that coordinates rail operation on an international level.
The Council was established on 14 February 1992, with its headquarters in Moscow, the official working language - Russian.
Recently, Afghanistan has been approved as an observer on this council and after certain formalities it will become an official observer.
