MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): The Economy Department in Laghman says it has set up small businesses for 182 needy people in the eastern province.
Economy Director Maulvi Jan Mohammad Hamid told Pajhwok Afghan News the businesses had been set up with financial support from Australia in Alishang district and the provincial capital.
He said: "Each person has been given equipment worth 30,000 afghanis for shopkeeping, carpentry, tailoring, mobile phone repair and livestock raising."
Meanwhile, the beneficiaries of the programme are happy with their small businesses, calling for extending the initiative in the future as well.
Mohammad Israr, an inhabitant of Mehtarlam, recalled: “I had a shop, but I shut it due to financial issues. I am happy that the government has helped me reopen my shop.”
He urged the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) to organise more such programmes in the future as well.
