KABUL (Pajhwok): The Salang highway was reopened for passenger vehicles on Friday a day it was closed due to heavy snowfall and server storm, the Ministry of Public Works says.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshanas, the ministry’s spokesperson, wrote on social media platform X that the busiest the Salang highway was closed to traffic yesterday at 8:00 pm due to snowfall, severe storm and limited visibility and was reopened today at 8:15am. Both sides of the tunnel have been reopened to passenger vehicles.
He said now the snow had stopped and the weather was partly cloudy and maintenance personnel were busy clearing the snow.
The Ministry of Public Works asked citizens and motorists to take along all needed winter equipment and use caution when traveling on this road.
The Salang highway connects Kabul with northern provinces.
