655 women’s rights issues addressed in Ghor

FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Officials of the Department of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (PVPV) in western Ghor province say that 655 cases of violence against women have been addressed in the past three years.

Mawlavi Abdul Basit Mullazada, deputy head of the PVPV Department, said: “After the resurgent of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) in the country, the Department of the PVPV in Ghor province was able to solve and process 655 cases related to women's rights.”

Among these cases were 260 related to forced marriages, 75 to women’s hereditary rights and the remaining were other issues.

He said 320 cases sent by them to the judicial organs for resolution had been addressed.

Mawlavi Mullahzada said that the IEA was committed to supporting women’s rights and providing them with all Sharia rights they were entitled.

Meanwhile, women in Ghor hailed the Department of PVPV for addressing their problems and demanded more support.

Shukriah, not a real name, a resident of Ferozkoh, told Pajhwok Afghan News that her brothers deprived her of her hereditary rights and after referring to the Department of PVPV she was provided her hereditary rights.

She said: “When my father died, my brothers didn't give me the rights that my father gave me, and they said that I am married and I don't need to marry if he died four years ago, but my brothers didn't care. I told my brothers a lot and they didn't accept it and finally, I went to the government and got my rights.”

Gul Chaihra, not a real name, said she faced violence from her husband six months ago and after referring to authorities the issue was resolved and she never faced violence from her husband.

“For unknown reasons, I was beaten by my mother-in-law, sister-in-law and I was in terrible condition, after I referred to the authorities with my father the behavior of my in-laws changed and now I have a comfortable life.”

Bother women have asked the Department of the PVPV and other relevant government authorities to defend women’s rights and address their problems.
