KABUL (Pajhwok): Representatives from the International Union of Railways (UIC) have pledged to include Afghan workers in upcoming training programs aimed at advancing skills in the railway sector.

This commitment was made during the UIC's 34th Regional Meeting.

In a statement, the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) said that the UIC’s 34th Regional Summit took place in Istanbul, Turkey, where a delegation from Afghanistan participated, led by the Deputy Minister of the MoPW.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Maulvi Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada emphasized the national and international importance of developing and standardizing railway infrastructure.

He stressed that, despite the challenges Afghanistan has faced over recent decades, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has made the development of the railway sector a top priority.

Sahibzada assured neighboring country representatives that the IEA remains committed to upgrading railway infrastructure, fostering stronger business ties, improving service quality, and implementing effective measures in operations, maintenance, and oversight.

UIC representatives reaffirmed their commitment to inviting Afghan workers to participate in specialized training courses focused on railway operations, management, and technical skills.

The summit also featured a comprehensive annual report, outlining recent activities, achievements, ongoing projects, and future initiatives by UIC and Middle Eastern regional representatives.

The Afghan delegation presented updates on their recent progress and shared their priorities for the next three years.
