Uzbek firm to export Afghan fresh fruits to Uzbekistan, Russia, Europe

KABUL (Pajhwok): An Uzbek agricultural company says it is ready to export 2,000 tonnes of Afghan fresh fruits annually to Uzbekistan, Russia and European countries, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) said on Monday.

In a statement, the ministry said Minister Nooruddin Azizi met Murad Qudratov, head of Uzbekistan’s Prime Agro Industries Company, in Kabul on Sunday.

Qudratov expressed satisfaction with the growing relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, saying his company was ready to export Afghan fresh fruits to Uzbekistan, Russia, and European markets.

He said Prime Agro Industries Company has the capacity to export 2,000 tonnes of Afghan fresh fruits annually, including cherries, apricots, plums, apples and pomegranates.

For his part, Azizi welcomed the initiative and expressed the ministry’s readiness to facilitate cooperation and support the export of Afghanistan’s agricultural products.

According to the MoCI, the products will initially be transported to Uzbekistan and later exported to markets in Russia and Europe.
