KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Vice and Virtue (MoVV) says Arezo TV channel has been closed for carrying out activities against Islamic values and Afghan traditions.
In a statement, MoVV said that the decision to shut down the TV channel was made to protect Islamic values, prevent the misuse of the media and maintain social order.
It said in order to have Islamic society secure, it was necessary for the media to forward within the framework of freedom and expression and Islamic ethics and principles.
The ministry claimedsome people were using the name of Arezo TV to conduct activities that were contrary to Islamic teachings and Afghan values.
According to the ministry, it was necessary to seriously investigate these issues in order to reform society and put it back on the right path.
“A thorough probe, revealed some individuals, using the name and building of Arezo TV and their positions in the media, had hired unofficial people to dub vulgar serials and programs that are against Islamic and Afghan principles and traditions, with the financial support from exiled media.”
The statement added it was clear to everyone that the decisions of the ministry had been made for the good of society and strengthening of the Islamic system.
It asked all media outlets to respect Islamic values, national interests and social ethics during their activities and to play a positive role in building a healthy and prosperous society.
The ministry added the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan was committed to freedom of expression and media independence within the framework of Islamic and Afghan principles.
Media outlets were free to carry out their work confidently, taking into account Islamic principles and national interests, it continued.
The officials of the television channel have not commented yet on the ministry’s decision.
According to reports, the TV channel had opened its office in Kabul in 2009.
