PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): A mass wedding ceremony of 62 couples has been held in northern Baghlan province by a welfare organization.
Sayed Ahmad Selab, head of the welfare organization, said In a series of mass wedding ceremonies held across the country, a mass wedding ceremony was held today for 62 couples from eight tribes living in Baghlan amid at preventing excessive expenses and eliminating wrong customs.
He said: “The people of Baghlan have promised with me that from now on, they will sign a 12-point resolution to prevent high dowry and additional expenses in marriages, according to which the maximum dowry amount will be 200,000 Afghanis and additional expenses such as Nowruz, Eid, etc. will also be prevented.”
He also said that the mass wedding ceremony in Baghlan was planned to be organized for 200 couples, but he said that the promises made by a number of businessmen to help them were not fulfilled.
Khalilrahman, one of the youths, said he was thankful to his and other father-in-law who agreed to their wedding and reduced the dowry amount.
“I have to arrange 10,000 afs dowry amount which was possible in four or five years, I thank my father-in-law for forgiving this huge amount.”
Participants of the mass wedding ceremony talked about the negative impact of high dowry amount and stressed the need for reducing dowry amount and holding simple wedding ceremonies.
