KABUL (Pajhwok): The "catastrophe" in the embattled Gaza Strip represents a complete collapse of “our humanity”, says the UN secretary-general.
Antonio Guterres’ remarks came amid the ongoing deadly strikes on the devastated enclave by the Israeli military for more than 14 months.
In a post on X on Friday, the secretary-general wrote: “The catastrophe in Gaza is nothing less than a complete collapse of our humanity. This nightmare must stop.”
The world could not continue to turn a blind eye to what was happening in the benighted Palestinian enclave, the UN chief stressed.
Earlier, one of the last partially functional health centres in besieged northern Gaza was hit several times overnight, leaving four health workers among the casualties and the dead.
UN World Health Organization (WHO) Representative Dr. Rik Peeperkorn said: “All night, there was heavy bombing around the Kamal Adwan Hospital”
He reported an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) tank was seen outside the hospital at around 4am on Friday, while people were told to move out of the health centre. “There was no official evacuation order.”
