Hakim Nasir Khesraw’s tomb in Badakhshan renovated

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Local officials in northeastern Badakhshan province say restoration work has been completed on the tomb of Hakim Nasir Khesraw Balkhi in the Yamgan district.

They say this historical monument has been comprehensively restored in its historical architectural style.

Eng. Zabihullah Amiri, director of information and culture, said that the historical tomb of Hakim Khesrawn, poet and philosopher, in Hazrat Sayed area had been deteriorated due to both natural and man-made causes. It was renovated to a standard that preserves its original state.

He added the restoration work was completed in four months, thanks to efforts of by the Information and Culture Department as well as financial and technical support from the Aga Khan Cultural Foundation.

The site was officially inaugurated and is now open to public.

He explained the restoration works included windows, doors, walls, pillars, plasterwork, footpaths, rooms known as Langarkhana and restroom. The windows were all restored using local materials and wood in accordance with its traditional design.

He also added in addition to the tomb of Khesraw, the Mullah Barat Mosque, another historical site in the area which are registered with the Ministry of Information and Culture, have also been restored by the cultural section of the Aga Khan Office.

He urged people and officials of the district to cooperate with this department in preserving historical monuments and noted that some other sites in the province are currently deteriorating, but practical measures are being taken to restore and protect them from further damage.

Mutiullah Azizi, a resident of Yamgan district, expressed his satisfaction with the attention given by the Information and Culture Department to historical sites, calling this initiative an important step in preserving the identity and culture of Badakhshan.

Meanwhile, cultural figures in the province Khesraw was a distinguished poet and writer of the Seljuk era, and his tomb, which is over 900 years old, is considered one of Afghanistan's significant heritage sites.

Nasir Khesraw, recognized as one of the greatest poets and philosophers in the history of the country, emphasized his mastery in various fields, including astronomy, philosophy, and medicine, through his poetry.
