Guterres: Dark spectre of genocide is still with us

KABUL (Pajhwok):  UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has underscored intensified action to prevent the atrocious crime of genocide.

He issued the call As on Monday, marking the 76th year since the adoption of the Convention on the Prevention & Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

In a brief post on X, the UN chief said: “Yet, in a world plagued by division and violence, the dark spectre of genocide is still with us.”

Last week, Amnesty International slammed Israel’s action during its ongoing offensive in the embattled Gaza enclave as genocide against Palestinians.

Israeli army burns truck carrying goods bound for southern Gaza.

In the benighted Palestinian city, Israeli troops torched a truck carrying goods in the Zeitoun neighbourhood, a media report said on Monday.

Anadolu quoted witnesses as saying the army stopped the privately owned truck heading to the southern part of the enclave via Salah al-Din Street.

The driver was forced to get out of the truck and taken to an unknown location by the soldiers, who then set the vehicle alight.
