Kharwar dam’s 1st phase completed in Logar

KABUL (Pajhwok): The first phase of Kharwar Dam project in central Logar province, aimed at maintenance and monitoring of the dam, has been completed at a cost of nearly 31 million afghanis.

In a statement, the Ministry of Energy and Water said the dam has the capacity to store 11.1 million cubic meters of water, generate 362 kilowatts of electricity, and irrigate 2,155 hectares of land.

It said the project was carried out under the supervision of the Logar Provincial Water and Energy Directorate, with financial support from the Ministry of Water and Energy.

According to the ministry, the construction of the dam first began in 1310 (solar calendar) but remained incomplete due to some challenges.
