KABUL (Pajhwok): The Kabul Municipality has launched the distribution of coal at a subsidised rate of 6,500 afghanis per ton, about 50 percent less than the current market price of 12,500 afs.
According to Maulvi Ahmad Jan Bilal, head of state firms, the Northern Coal Company, in coordination with municipal officials, will transport the necessary coal to designated locations across Kabul in an organised manner.
Bilal said Kabul residents could visit the distribution points to obtain one ton of coal at the subsidised rate of 6,500 afs.
Eng. Ismatullah Ansar, deputy head of the Kabul Municipality’s Market Regulation Department, said municipal authorities, in cooperation with district representatives, were overseeing the distribution process to ensure applicants were extended the facility.
A special mechanism has also been established to prevent hoarding and the sale of coal at inflated prices.
Meanwhile, a coal vendor in Qalacha area told Pajhwok that today, premium-grade coal accounted for 13,000 afghanis per ton, while second-grade coal was priced at 12,000 afghanis.
