8-team winter volleyball contest kicks off in Ghor

FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): A winter volleyball tournament, featuring eight teams, has kicked off in Ferozkoh, the capital of western Ghor province, an official said on Thursday.

Hayatullah Tawhidi, an official of the Sports and Physical Training Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the event was aimed to promote volleyball in the province and foster an atmosphere of unity among players.

He said the competition, which got under way today (Thursday) at the gymnasium of the department, would last a fortnight.

He added the Sultan Ghiasuddin Ghori team defeated the opposition by 3-0 in the opening match of the tournament.

Meanwhile, volleyball players voiced satisfaction over the organisation of the tournament. They said such events could lure youth towards sports and promote the game in the province.
