GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Government officials, religious scholars and tribal elders in the Gailan district of southern Ghazni province have passed a 13-point resolution about the prevention of false traditions.
The resolution is about forced marriages, marriage before legal age, depriving widows from marriage, high amount of dowry, extravagant wedding cost, providing different items under the name of Qalang, depriving women from hereditary rights, bad marriages and some other false costumes and traditions.
Haji Hayat, one of the tribal elders told Pajhwok Afghan News, that tribal elders, religious scholars and government officials have gathered in the Jandai locality and passed a resolution against false customs.
He said according to the new resolution the dowry amount of virgin is set 300,000 afs and widow 150,000 afs.
He said earlier, the dowry amount was 100,0000 afs due to which most youth had to go abroad to work and collect money.
Another tribal elder Mohammad Shakour, said the Taraki, Shabikhel, Alikhel, Mirakhi and Andar tribes of the Gailan district had passed a resolution to prevent false customs and it was be acceptable to all.
He said in case of the violation of the 13-point resolution there would be punishment.
Similarly, Mohammad Wasil, a young man from the Gilan district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that it was very difficult for young people to provide their dowry as daily wage workers.
He said, “Here, the daily wage is 300 Afghanis, so how could we meet a million dowry? Now it is better to pay 300,000 rupees.”
Similarly, Maulvi Agha Mohammad, a religious scholar from Gilan, said that religious scholars supported meetings and decisions that benefit the people and solve social problems.
Similarly, Maulvi Ghulam Rasool Anas, the district governor of Gilan, also supported the decision and said that he was cooperating with tribal elders in its implementation.
It is worth noting that similar decisions have been made by tribal elders in Andar, Giro, Qarabagh, and Waghaz districts of Ghazni before, which have been implemented in many areas.
