11 bodies recovered from collapsed coalmine in Pakistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Eleven bodies have been recovered from a collapsed coal mine near Quetta, the capital city of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, according to reports on Sunday.

A gas explosion in a mine in the Sanjeedi area of ​​Quetta caused a section of the mine to collapse, trapping twelve miners.

Pir Muhammad Kakar, one of the leaders of the mines workers association, said the incident resulted from non-implementation of mining regulations by the owner of coal mines and blamed officials at the mines department for the incident

Twelve workers were trapped when the coal mine collapsed in the Sanjdi area, about 40 kilometres from Quetta in the Balochistan province, on Wednesday (January 8, 2025) evening.

The report quotes the Pakistan Central Miners' Union as saying that 192 miners lost their lives in various accidents in the country's mines in 2024, adding that most of these incidents occurred in Balochistan.
