Work on water reservoirs, pipeline scheme beings in Laghman

MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Construction work on 19 water reservoirs and a water pipeline scheme has begun in eastern Laghman province, an official said on Monday.

Head of River Basin Maulvi Sherjan Rashidi told Pajhwok Afghan News the World Food Program (WFP) had started constructing 19 water reservoirs and a pipeline scheme worth 49 million afghanis in Gulghondi, Abdul Wakil Khan Ban and Wora Gul areas of Qarghi district.

“The reservoirs have a capacity of storing 960 cubic meters water and it will directly provide clean drinking water to 1,710 families and irrigate 160 hectares of agricultural land”: he added.

Meanwhile, the residents are happy with the implementation of these projects and hoped their completion would solve people’s problems.

Malik Ghairat, a resident of Qarghi district. explained they had difficulty fetching drinking water home from Kabul River in barrels, but construction of these reservoirs will enable them to have easy access to clean water.

On the other hand, a pipe scheme project is being implemented in the area, which will provide hundreds of families with access to clean water, Malik Kamran, a resident added.

According to officials, the project will be completed in three months and will provide employment opportunities for dozens of people.
