Deputy Minister visits Uzbekistan to propel Afghan-Trans project

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Deputy Minister of Public Works has discussed the practical implementation of the Afghan-Trans project with the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan.

Mohammad Ashraf Haqshanas, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW), wrote on his X page that Deputy Minister Maulvi Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada traveled to Uzbekistan at the head of a delegation.

During the visit, Sahibzada met Ilkhom Mahkamov, the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan.

Haqshanas said that the two sides discussed the details of how to begin the practical work on the Afghan-Trans project and the coordination between them.

According to him, the purpose of the trip was to continue and expand bilateral trade and economic relations between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

Maulvi Sahibzada also met with Narzullaev Zufar Giyasovich, the head of the Railways Authority, and Hikmatullah Rahmatov, the deputy head of the same authority, during his visit.

The Afghanistan-Uzbekistan-Pakistan railway project (Afghan-Trans), which spans 780 kilometers, will connect Central Asia with South Asia through Afghanistan.

It begins in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, and extends to Torkham in Nangarhar province.
