KABUL (Pajhwok): The Natural Disaster Preparedness Authority (NDPA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with a Japanese organisation to launch awareness programmes about landmines and unexploded ordnance.
In a statement, NDPA announced the MoU, valued at over $500,000, was signed by the acting head of the authority, Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, and AAR Japan chief Mohammad Bashir Basir.
Under the agreement, the organisation will carry out public awareness campaigns on the risks of landmines and unexploded ordnance in Kabul, as well as in the Shamlzai, Shinkai, Narang, and Jaldak districts of Zabul province, with an estimated budget exceeding $500,000.
Mullah Turabi said the authority had always sought cooperation from different organisations working in the humanitarian field.
He added, "We hope these organisations will continue making efforts to attract more aid and ensure its transparent and timely distribution to those in need."
Bashir Basir said his organisation’s staff was committed to fully cooperating with partner agencies both in the capital and in the provinces.
