Major chunk of US aid provided to foreign organizations, humanitarian aid

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Economy has said that major chunk of $3.71 billion that the United States spent in Afghanistan was provided to international organizations, some part of which was allocated for their own expenses and the remaining wad distributed under the name of humanitarian aid.

The US Inspector General for Afghanistan (SIGAR) in its new report said that over the past three years, the United States has spent $3.71 billion, but this spending has not had a significant impact on Afghanistan's economic situation.

The Ministry of Economy's press release states that these financial resources were made available to international institutions, most of which were used for their own expenses, and the rest was allocated to various sectors under the name of humanitarian aid.

The statement said: “This comes at a time when, in addition to the US financial and economic sanctions, it has frozen more than $9 billion in our country's foreign exchange reserves, which belong to the people of Afghanistan, and our national economy has also been affected by this.”

Any US action regarding the allocation, use, or transfer of these reserves is unacceptable, and the international community is requested to make these financial resources available to the Central Bank of Afghanistan to be used to maintain monetary stability, strengthen the financial system, facilitate trade with the world, and stabilize the country's economy.
