ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Security officials have seized 150 pairs of planks in Chapa Dara district of eastern Kunar province.
Kunar Police Chief Maulvi Ziaul Haq Hamid told Pajhwok Afghan News that the forest protection unit had seized 150 planks being smuggled illegally in Chapa Dara district last night during a special operation.
He said: “The forest protection unit confiscated the timber, which was used to make wooden planks and was being smuggled to other areas for sale through secret and illegal routes.”
According to him, the smugglers had managed to escape and efforts were underway to arrest them.
He also said 390 people have been arrested on charges of timber smuggling and referred to judicial organs in the past three years.
