GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): About 35 fire breakout incidents took place in southern Ghazni province during the past 10 months, an official said on Wednesday.
Head of Fire Department at Police Headquarters Obaidullah Muslim told Pajhwok Afghan News 35 fire incidents were recorded in the province in last 10 months.
He said these blazes caused losses worth 10 million afghanis, but losses valued 100 million afghanis had been prevented.
Although there were no casualties in these incidents, but he attributed these fires to carelessness.
Muslim explained fire management capabilities had improved compared to the past, and employees had gained experience and were able to control fires in a timely manner and prevent further damage.
“These fires happened in people’s homes, commercial markets, oil stores, gas companies, tankers, workplaces, and others, and all incidents have been responded to in a timely manner”.
People could contact the Fire Department by calling 101 during fire and this number is posted in different areas, Muslim added.
He asked people to take precautions against fire in their homes, markets, and workplaces.
“Mostly when our fire trucks are on the road toward the scene, drivers and other ordinary people do not cooperate in clearing the road, which is very important”.
On the other hand, residents are happy with services provided by the fire department.
Mohammad Salim Niazi, a petrol seller, told Pajhwok a tanker caught fire at the petrol station some time ago, but firefighters arrived quickly and extinguished the fire.
If the fire had not been extinguished, other tanks nearby would have also caught fire and it would have caused great damage, Niazi added.
Meanwhile, 63 fires broke out in eastern Nangarhar during the past 10 months.
