Moscow supports Kabul’s efforts to combat terror

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Russia says it is focussed on ramping up constructive cooperation with Afghanistan and Pakistan in combating terrorism.

The Russian ambassador to Pakistan said: "Strengthening peace and stability in Afghanistan and countering terrorist threats … are in our common interest in the region."

In an interview, Albert Khorev underlined Russia’s support for Afghanistan’s counter-terrorism efforts, pledging necessary assistance to Kabul in this regard.

Addressing security issues in areas along the Durand Line was essentially the domain of the two countries, the ambassador told TASS news agency.

“For our part, we welcome both bilateral and regional cooperation in the fight against the terrorist threat. Dialogue on a wide range of common problems and challenges is already underway…”

He was referring to the Moscow consultation format and other multilateral fora that bring together Afghanistan’s neighbours.

The diplomat recalled contingents from Russia and Pakistan had jointly staved off threats during the seventh round of military drills.

The diplomat noted Russia and Pakistan were engaged in productive counter-terrorism cooperation.
