Tons of expired medicines, food items torched in Helmand

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Expired medicines and food items weighing 34 tons were set alight in Gereshk district of southern Helmand province, an official said on Friday.

Helmand Information and Culture Director Hafiz Abdul Bari Rashid told Pajhwok that the Public Health Department’s monitoring team had collected 34 tons of expired medicines and food items from pharmacies and shops in the district over the past two days.

These items were burned in the presence of a delegation, he said, adding the Public Health Department had repeatedly issued recommendations to food shops and drugstores not to sell expired medicines and products, but the practice continued.

Rashid stressed that no one should sell expired medicines and products to citizens and violators will be dealt with legally.

Previously, expired medicines and food items have been collected from shops and pharmacies and torched in other provinces as well.
