Ministry plans to admit more children to orphanages

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has announced plans to admit more orphaned children into orphanages, stating that over 7,000 orphaned children are currently receiving care in 50 orphanages under the ministry’s supervision.

Samiullah Ibrahimi, spokesperson for MoLSA, told Pajhwok Afghan News that approximately 50 orphanages operate under the ministry's supervision, with 10 designated for girls and the remaining for boys.

He clarified that more than 7,000 orphaned and homeless children are being provided with care in a safe and secure environment within these facilities.

In addition to housing, clothing, and food, these children receive technical and vocational training. The training is delivered by male teachers for boys and female teachers for girls.

A staff member from the girls' orphanage in Kabul, who wished to remain anonymous, told Pajhwok: "A truly safe environment has been provided for these children. The girls are treated with dignity and respect at all times. They receive nutritious food, quality clothing, and all their essential needs are met."

She emphasized that all teachers and staff in the girls’ section are women.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s press office issued a statement today (Monday), stating that a coordination meeting was held between ministry officials and local scholars and elders from the Bagrami district of Kabul to discuss the admission of more orphaned and homeless children.

The statement highlighted remarks from Maulvi Mohammad Asghar Safdari, chief of orphanages at MoLSA, who spoke about the importance of caring for orphans and ensuring their mental and emotional well-being.

He acknowledged that the number of orphaned and homeless children in the country remains high. Given the available resources, the ministry aims to admit only the most deserving children into the orphanages.

He added that achieving this goal requires the cooperation of local authorities, scholars, community councils, and tribal elders.

The statement noted that several participants in the meeting praised the ministry’s efforts in caring for orphans and pledged their full support and cooperation for this initiative.
