KABUL (Pajhwok): More than a hundred publishers have displayed their books at the Holy Quran and Book Exhibition held in Kabul on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
This seven-day exhibition was opened today (Thursday, March 29) by the Bayhaqi Book Publishing Department of the Ministry of Information and Culture in the Deh Afghan area of Kabul.
Mawlavi Hayatullah Muhajir Farahi, secretary broadcasting at the Ministry of Information and Cultural Affairs, during the inauguration ceremony said: “Today we started a seven-day exhibition, and the goal of this book exhibition is to encourage young people to read.”
He added that one hundred publishers are participating in this exhibition, which was organized by the Bayhaqi Directorate, and they displayed books and copies of the Holy Quran that were recently printed by the Bayhaqi Directorate. Farahi urged citizens to visit the exhibition and purchase their favorite books.
Meanwhile, Qari Abdul Kabir Mohammadi, the director of Kabul's Noor Publishing House and one of the participants in the exhibition, said: "This exhibition was launched on the occasion of the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan.
It is a Quranic exhibition, and thousands of volumes of religious and contemporary books are on display." Referring to the importance of this exhibition, he added: "We should hold these exhibitions whenever we can, at different times, in different parts of the city and provinces, so that the young generation can easily access books."
The source asked the Islamic Emirate to designate a specific place for selling books so that everyone can work regularly under one umbrella.
The source also asked the youth to study, not waste their time on social media, and to increase their knowledge through studying.
Meanwhile, Atta Mohammad, a native of Panjshir Province and one of the visitors to the exhibition, said: "Today we came to the book exhibition. Of course, books are our soul and spirit, but the conditions were not conducive to pursuing and dealing with books more."
He added that he is happy that such exhibitions are held to encourage young people to read.
