GARDEZ (Pajhwok): The Department of Telecommunications and Information Technology of southeastern Paktia has announced it would construct 12 new telecom towers in some districts of the province.
Maulvi Naseerullah Hijrat, director of the department, told the media that a survey has been conducted for construction of these new telecom antennas, and work on them will begin soon.
He also said these towers will be built by Salaam Telecommunications Company in districts of Zurmat, Ruhani Baba, Wazi Zadran, Mirzaka, Ahmadkhel, Lajamangal, Jankhel, Aryub, Gorda Sera, and Shawak.
According to him, these new towers will somehow solve people’s communication problems in remote areas, although there are still some areas without access to telecom services.
At the same time, residents of several remote areas have also complained that they are deprived of telecom services.
Abdul Basir, a resident of Ruhani Baba district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that telecom networks did not work in his area, and to make contact, he has to climb hills.
He added telecom services are a basic need of life, and urged government officials to address this issue.
Bilal, a resident of Jankhel district, also told Pajhwok that telecom networks are not active in his area.
He added that during emergencies, he has to travel to a much farther area to establish a connection.
According to reports, this year, four telecom towers have been built and activated by private telecom companies in Paktia.
