Afghan, Indian envoys talk enhanced cooperation

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan and Indian diplomats have discussed the need for boosting bilateral cooperation between the two countries, a media report said on Wednesday.

Afghan Ambassador to Iran Fazl Haqqani met his Indian counterpart Gaurav Shresth in Tehran in what is seen as the latest engagement between the two sides.

They conferred on expanding cooperation in the area of exports and imports through the Chabahar port in Iran, The Times of India reported.

Power generation, water supply, road connectivity, healthcare, education, agriculture and capacity building are the focus of India’s development partnership with Afghanistan.

The Modi administration says India’s approach to Afghanistan continued to be guided by its historical relations and friendship with its people.

In line with New Delhi’s policy of engagement with the interim Afghan government, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri recently met Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.
