Kabul, Tehran discuss expansion of relations

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghan consul general in Mashhad and a senior Iranian official have discussed the expansion of political, economic, trade and cultural ties between Kabul and Tehran.

Consul General Faizanullah Naseri met Gholam Hossein Mozaffari, the governor of Iran’s Khorasan Razavi province, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.

A statement from the ministry said both sides stressed the need to boost political, economic, trade, and cultural relations between the two countries.

Representatives from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present at the meeting.

Meanwhile, Iran’s IRIB News Agency confirmed the meeting, at which the Khorasan Razavi governor said Afghanistan’s mineral resources and raw materials could significantly boost job creation in both countries.

He added: “Hosting the Afghan people at various times and ensuring lasting security have been key priorities in Iran-Afghanistan relations. Now, our cooperation can pave the way for even stronger ties.”

For his part, Naseri emphasised the importance of unity among Muslims.
