HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A three-day street book exhibition dedicated to the Ramadan month has been launched in western Herat province to promote book reading culture in society.
Ghulam Farouq Mahmoodi, organizer of the exhibition, said he was trying to hold such exhibition every month in high-traffic areas of city in order to promote the culture of reading and increase people’s access to books.
According to him, more than 3,000 volumes of special Ramadan books, including religious, historical, literary, and social science topics, have been displayed for sale at special discounts to encourage citizens to read during the holy Ramadan month.
Residents and culturists consider holding such exhibitions a positive step towards promoting the culture of reading and institutionalizing the culture of reading.
On the other hand, Maulana Hamidullah Ghiasi, Head of Culture and Arts at Information and Culture Department, welcomed the exhibition launched by young people.
He voiced support for holding of book exhibitions in the city and expressed hope that the street book exhibition would help grow book reading the culture on a continuous basis.
On February 27, a seven-day book exhibition was held in Deh-Afghan area of Kabul.
