Champions Trophy: India, NZ clash in final today

KABUL (Pajhwok): New Zealand and India are all set to meet in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Stadium today (Sunday).

The match would commence at 1:30pm Afghanistan time. Unbeaten in the tournament, India are the only side to have defeated New Zealand in their group-stage fixture.

Both teams have won the tournament previously, India in 2002 and 2013 and New Zealand in 2000.

The eight-nation event kicked off on February 19 in Karachi, Pakistan. Afghanistan also participated in mega contest for the first time and played three matches.

In their opening game, South Africa had trounced Afghanistan by 107 runs at the National Bank Stadium in the port city of Karachi.

However, they bounced back with a thrilling eight-run victory over England in Lahore. Their third outing against Australia was abandoned due to rain, with each team receiving a point.

Afghanistan secured fifth place in the tournament.
