TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): A Ramazan cricket tournament has got under way in the capital of central Uruzgan province, an official announced on Sunday.
Uruzgan Cricket Director Khairullah Afghan told the opening ceremony the matches would be played at night in Tirinkot, the provincial capital.
He said the tournament, which began on Saturday night, would continue for 15 days. Each innings was comprised of 15 overs, the official added.
The event is aimed to promote the game in the province, enhance players’ skills and hunt new local talent.
Meanwhile, participating players voiced satisfaction with the organisation of the tournament.
Hikmatullah Hakimi, manager of the Hakimi Club, said such tournaments not only provided an opportunity for players to hone their skills but also served as a great source of entertainment for the local community.
He urged the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) to construct a standard stadium in the province.
