Canadian tourist embraces Islam in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A Canadian tourist has converted to Islam while visiting eastern Nangarhar province, the Information and Culture Department said on Monday.

The 37-year-old Edward Andres was given the Islamic name Muhammad Akbar after converting to Islam.

Head of Information and Culture Department Eid Mohammad Hanafi said the tourist embraced Islam after being impressed by the sincerity, love, and Islamic ethics of the people while visiting the province.

Meanwhile, the Information and Culture Department in a statement quoted Andres as saying that religious beliefs, hospitality, and Islamic ethics of the Afghans found their way into his heart, and he decided to convert to Islam.

Recently, several other foreign tourists have converted to Islam in various provinces while traveling to Afghanistan.
