MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): A 46-member police motorcycle unit has been set up in northern Balkh province in order to strengthen security, the force announced on Wednesday.
“The Balkh Police Headquarters has established the 46-member unit equipped with military gear to prevent criminal activities and respond swiftly to security incidents,” the police headquarters said in a statement.
It said the unit will operate 24/7 to improve the security situation in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital, and take effective measures to maintain stability.
The statement added that the unit would respond swiftly to any incident and play an active role in ensuring security across the city.
Additionally, the statement quoted Balkh Police Security Chief Ahmad Zia Khalid as assuring that “this unit is committed to preventing criminal activities and ensuring public safety.”
Earlier, similar security units have been established in several other provinces of the country to enhance maneuverability and law enforcement tasks.
