KABUL (Pajhwok): A Doha-based media network on Tuesday strongly condemned the killing of its correspondent by the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip.
“Israeli occupation forces” killed Hossam Shabat in an airstrike that targetted his car in Jabalia, Al Jazeera Media Network said in a statement..
Shabat had now joined its other journalists killed during Israel’s onslaught on Gaza, including Samer Abu Daqa, Hamza Al-Dahdouh, Ismail Al-Ghoul, and Ahmed Al-Louh, the network added .
While extending its condolences to Shabat’s family, the outlet vowed: “Al Jazeera affirms its commitment to pursue all legal measures to prosecute the perpetrators of these crimes against journalists.”
It went on to urge human rights and media organisations to condemn the Israeli occupation’s systematic killing of journalists and the evasion of responsibilities under international humanitarian law.
“Al Jazeera renews its firm commitment to covering events in the Gaza Strip, despite the ongoing targeting and harassment faced by its correspondents and journalists.”
Meanwhile, AFP quoted a spokesman for Gaza’s civil defence as saying that14 people had been killed since midnight in Israeli strikes on the besieged Palestinian territory.
Mahmud Bassal told the news agency that Israeli aircraft had conducted more than 20 strikes across the territory. The fatalities included women and children.
