KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 30 people lost their lives and another 155 were injured in 80 traffic accidents taking place during Eidul Fitr holidays across the country, traffic police said on Friday.
The Traffic Police General Directorate in a statement said 80 accidents took place nationwide during the four days of Eid al-Fitr.
The deaths and injuries were recorded on 29th of the holy month of Ramadan till the 3rd day of Eid al-Fitr).
The dead included 19 men, two women and nine children, while the injured included 117 men, eight women and 30 children.
According to the Traffic Police General Directorate, a total of 98 traffic accidents occurred during the four days of Eid al-Fitr last year, resulting in 50 deaths and 185 injuries.
The department said awareness campaigns this year increased public awareness about traffic rules and strict police security measures during Eid holidays led to a decrease in traffic accidents and fatalities.
The General Directorate of Traffic Police once again urged citizens to strictly follow traffic rules while traveling to prevent fatal accidents.
