KABUL (Pajhwok): Seven people have been killed and 16 others injured as a result of an explosion in South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a media report said on Monday.
Mashal Radio reported the explosion happened at Peace Committee Office in Rustam Bazar of Wana, the district headquarters, today 11:00am.
Imran Mukhlis, a local community leader, said the office was opened in 2007 during the peace agreement between militant commander Mullah Nazir and the government, and that civilians often visit the peace committee office and hold meetings on various issues.
It said initial investigations indicate that a bomb had been planted in the office that exploded.
Seven individuals have been killed and 16 others wounded in the explosion, including two members of security committee and other civilians, the report added.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion.
The Pakistan army on Monday said security forces killed 17 militants a day after killing 54 others in a single engagement in North Waziristan area along Afghanistan border.
