KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A road has been constructed at a cost of 22 million afghanis and put into service in southeastern Khost province, an official said on Tuesday.
Located in the 6th police district near the Shaikh Zayed University in the provincial capital, the road is 610 metres long and 10 metres wide.
Mayor Mufti Shahzad Noor Rashid told Pajhwok Afghan News the project included 1,420 metres drains on both sides, a 690 metres footpath, three culverts and a 600-metre canal.
According to the mayor, the municipality-funded project was completed in six months at a cost of 22 million afghanis.
He announced work on four other development projects would begin soon. Upon the completion of the schemes, inhabitants will get access to a number of facilities.
Meanwhile, residents voiced pleasure over the construction of the road, hoping congestions on the roads leading to the city would ease.
Tahir Jan Khyal, a resident of Khost, told Pajhwok the road lay close to the Shaikh Zayed University and the Civil Hospital. Its construction will help resolve the travel problems of students and patients.
Adil Jan another resident, urged the municipality to pay attention to building similar roads in other parts of the cit as well.
About 17 development projects are planned for the solar year 1404, and will be implemented in different areas of the city.
