FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Three people have been killed after flash floods emerged in various districts of northeastern Badakhshan province, damaging dozens of homes and crops.
Badakhshan Disaster Preparedness Directorate head Maulvi Mohammad Akram Akbari told Pajhwok Afghan News that floods emerged in Warduj, Raghistan, Arghanchkhwa, Khash, Jurm and Tashkan districts since last Wednesday.
He said: “The most damage was caused in the villages of Khustak Valley in Jurm district, where 50 residential houses were completely destroyed, two people lost their lives, and hundreds of acres of agricultural land, gardens, a mosque and other public facilities were damaged.”
He added that damage was also reported in the villages of Bashand, Yumal and Tish in Warduj district,. He said 15 houses were destroyed in Bashand village, nine houses in Yumal and six houses in Tish village.
The floods played havoc with agricultural lands, gardens, roads, bridges and water supply networks.
He also said that one person lost his life and six residential houses were destroyed due to these floods in Raghistan district.
Akbari added that in Arghanjkhwa district, 20 residential houses were destroyed, agricultural lands were severely damaged and communication routes were completely closed to the people.
According to him, the destruction of roads and bridges in the “Dozakh Dara” bridge area has caused difficulties for local people to commute
He explained that investigation teams have been dispatched to the affected areas and emergency aid will begin to be provided to the victims.
