AIBAK (Pajhwok): Four miners have died following the collapse of a coal mine in the Dara-i-Suf Bala district of northern Samangan province, a police official said on Sunday.
Hashmatullah Rahmani, spokesman for the Samangan Police, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the incident occurred three days ago in the village of Lailawa Qobi. Following the collapse, four miners were trapped beneath the rubble.
He added that rescue operations continued over the past three days, and on Saturday night, the bodies of all four miners were recovered from under the rubble.
According to Rahmani, the victims were residents of Ashtarlay district in Daikundi province.
Similar incidents have claimed dozens of lives in Samangan’s coal mines in recent years. Experts attribute the recurring tragedies to unregulated and unsafe mining practices.
