KABUL (Pajhwok): One individual has killed and 14 others injured after Russian drones attacked the Ukrainian Black Sea city of Odesa, local authorities said.
According to Reuters, the overnight assault damaged a high-rise building and railway infrastructure.
Odesa, Ukraine’s largest Black Sea port crucial for imports and exports, has been under constant missile and drone attacks by Russia since the war began.
“Despite the active work of air defense forces, there is damage to civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings, a higher education institution, a gas pipeline, and private vehicles,” local governor Oleh Kiper said on Telegram.
Emergency services reported at least 10 drone strikes on residential buildings during the attack, which caused massive fires.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched 86 drones across the country overnight. Of these, 34 were shot down by air defense units, while 36 were either diverted using electronic warfare or turned out to be drone simulators without warheads.
Despite efforts to intercept the drones, Ukrainian forces confirmed that eight locations were hit.
Ukrainian state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia reported that Odesa’s railway station was among the damaged sites, with power lines and tracks affected.
